Yoga, Picnic, and Other Things I Love this Week
Hey Love,
It's been a very humid and hot week! But that didn't stop me from hitting a few downward dogs outside in the blazing heat! Isn't this what summer is for?! It's my first summer in DC and I'm soaking up all the sun I can and loving every minute of it. It's been a beautiful week of meeting amazing people and doing new things. The best things happen with good company. That's my motto and this week was a great one. Here's what brought a smile to my face this week:
The Surprising Book Genre That I Can't Stop Reading
Hi Love,
As of this writing, I've read 35 books so far this year! Last year, 2020, I read a total of 50 books, a great record, that'll probably be surpassed this year. My not-so-secret-secret is audiobooks! They've been a game changer for me! My close friends would tell you that I'm more of a lover of books, as in buying books, than I am an actual reader. Social media has shown be that I'm not alone in that camp. You might be there with me. So many of us love reading, but just don't have the time! It sucks. And for some, even when we got more time than expected (1st season of the pandemic, anybody?) we still kinda struggled. I surely did. And it was in that season I found what worked very well for me: reading non-fiction via audiobooks. And the genre that I surprisingly loved was memoirs!
Change Your Mornings with these Short Meditations to Realign and Flow
It's half past 8 on this late July evening as I write this post. I have my windows open while the rain cools this humid day. The birds are happy about it and so am I. I especially love how bright it still is at this late hour; one of the daily gifts of summer. Mindfully taking in this beautiful moment. Breathing it in and appreciating it out. Meditation is something we can practice anywhere. My favorite time is early in the morning right after my morning prayers. I love a short guided meditation that gets my day started on the right path. And as a practitioner for over a decade, I can attest to the immense benefits of a few mindful moments in the morning. I simply do 5-10 minutes each morning and that nourishes my soul and awakens my mind. The power of mindful breathing is just astounding! In this post, I'm sharing 3 of my favorite short morning mediations. I use the free app and website, Insight Timer, that has an endless array of options. Let me know what you think in the comments- all meditations linked.
Look of the Week: Summer Simplicity
This week's style is for the woman who simply wants to bask in the sun with a drink in hand and the content smile of great company. She embraces the leisure of summer by wearing a simple silhouette with a flattering color and texture. She relishes in brunching in the city with a chic color contrasting sandals. And she stays ready with summer essentials in her mini basket straw bag where she always keeps a book for the go.
Why I Didn't Keep January's Energy and What I'm Doing About It
It's been a HOT minute. This is not a post I thought I'd be writing when the year started, but hey, we all know very well that so little is in our actual control. One of the last post I wrote on this this blog was titled, "How to Keep January's Energy All Year Long". In the post I shared 5 things to do to keep that "new year-new me" energy that many of us have each at the start of the year. Suffice to say, I did not keep that energy! At least not as I hoped. I'll get into why that was in this post. I will say though that you reading this post shows that, at least one of the items, from that list in January stood true. Let's get into it:
